Powering Victoria’s future through creativity

The state government has unveiled its latest strategy for Victoria’s creative industries.

Released on Monday 1 December, Creative State 2028 outlines a three-year plan to create jobs, boost businesses, and ensure all Victorians can enjoy the social, cultural and economic benefits of the creative sector.

“Since our first Creative State strategy in 2016, creative industries jobs in Victoria have grown by an impressive 41 per cent,” Creative Industries Minister Danny Pearson said.

“Creative State 2028 will position our creative sector for continued growth in the years ahead.”

Key initiatives in the new strategy include a dedicated fund to support independent artists and creative projects in regional and outer-metropolitan areas, new programs to cement Victoria’s status as Australia’s digital games hub, and dedicated strategies for the literature and contemporary music sectors.

“The strategy was informed by consultation with over 1,500 Victorians, including 200 First Peoples representatives,” Mr Pearson explained.

“It strongly focuses on supporting First Peoples creative and cultural practice, with new funds and grants to help these artists thrive.”

Other priorities include increasing opportunities for young people to participate in creative activities, continuing to grow Victoria’s screen industry, and redesigning regional investment and touring programs.

“Creative industries are the lifeblood of our state, contributing $41.2 billion to the Victorian economy,” Mr Pearson said.

“This strategy will ensure our creative sector can continue to create jobs, drive innovation, and enrich the lives of all Victorians.”
