A couple of Sunbury choirs are seeking new members to croon alongside them.
The all-male, non-auditioned HarmoniX Vocal Company and the mixed DynamiX Vocal Company are welcoming newcomers to get on board.
HarmoniX Vocal Company leader Peter Galland is a firm believer in the power of music and singing as “a way into health”.
“It’s so vital, it makes connections with people and in itself leads to someone feeling better,” Mr Galland said.
HarmoniX group has an eclectic repertoire of songs, with golden oldies, do-wop pieces, musical numbers, and they even belt modern pop classics from names like Robbie Williams, Bruno Mars and Jason Mraz.
Mr Galland’s favourite song to perform with the choir ‘Crazy Little Thing Called Love’ by Queen.
In their suave black suits, the group brings their joyful music into aged care facilities as well as at gigs for the whole community.
Julie Wilson from the Sunbury School of Music is the group’s musical director, and helps HarmoniX to be the best they can be.
While there aren’t auditions, the choir is committed to presenting top-notch shows. Reading music is a bonus but is not a requirement. Age is not a barrier either, as they welcome anyone in their adolescence and older.
Mr Galland spoke to Star Weekly following a performance for the University of the Third Age in Sunbury and said it had been a delightful show.
“They loved it, it went very well,” he said.
“We’ve done it for corporate groups before as well… we’re available for anyone.”
