Kyneton residents are being encouraged to plant daffodil bulbs in their gardens to bring colour to the town in spring.

The Kyneton Daffodil and Arts Festival committee is selling daffodil bulbs to raise money for the annual festival, which is scheduled for September.

The bulb sale is the main fundraiser for the festival which celebrates spring with a series of visual and performing arts, crafts, garden and flower shows and markets.

Festival secretary Marg Dearricott said while the committee was unsure if this year’s festival would be able to go ahead, home gardeners were still encouraged to plant their bulbs.

She said if the pandemic emergency has not passed by September, people would still have a cheerful garden to enjoy.

“Not only does planting daffodils in home gardens involve everyone in the festival, making for great garden displays for years to come, it is a great activity to promote good health and wellbeing at this time when people may be more able to work on their home and garden,” she said.

“And most certainly, the purchase of bulbs will help the festival to cover costs and maintain our fabulous 48-year-old annual festival, helping it to continue if not in 2020 then in 2021.”

Bulbs can be purchased by emailing daffodil@netcon.net.au or by calling Ms Dearricott on 5422 2282 and will be delivered to people living within five kilometres of Kyneton.
