New Gisborne Telstra customers may notice some changes to their mobile service this week as the telecommunications company begins planned upgrade works to its mobile network.
The upgrade is due to begin tomorrow and is expected to be completed by the end of the week.
Telstra’s regional general manager Steve Tinker said customers may continue to receive coverage from nearby mobile sites but there would be some unavoidable impacts to mobile services as crews worked during the day.
“We have sent out text messages ahead of the upgrade work to ensure our residents have had time to plan ahead,” he said.
“We know there is never a perfect time to schedule upgrade work and we apologise for the interruption but once we are finished, it will mean better services for our customers.”
Some businesses may notice an impact to their EFTPOS terminals if the terminals use Telstra’s 3G or 4G network.
Telstra is urging business owners to contact their bank for details on switching their EFTPOS terminals to an alternate connection.
