Diggers rest local has been named as a finalist of a photography competition depicting the inner west.
The perspectives of the inner west photography competition is for professional and amateur photographers to capture what it is like to live in the west.
Twelve finalists were selected from more than 1000 entries, with the three winners to be announced on Friday, May 12 at Grazeland.
Finalist Benjamin Muscara from Diggers Rest said he was surprised when he was named as a finalist for the competition.
“I was caught by surprise, but it was a sense of achievement,” Mr Muscara said.
“Entering the competition that’s what you strive for, it definitely took me by surprise but it was a fantastic call to receive.”
Mr Muscara said he captured his entry when he was on a photo walk with a friend and said the photograph struck a bit of emotion.
“The initial juxtaposition of the Sun Theatre’s iconic sign, with the façade of a longstanding Yarraville building instantly caught my eye,” he said.
“The cropping of my shot gives you the illusion that the vine creepers running along the brick almost completely take over the building, signifying its age.
“With the focus of my shot on the sun and with the gloominess of the sky behind, this completes the story that it is always sunny in Yarraville, particularly from this building’s perspective.”
Mr Muscara said he is looking forward to the winners announcement and the chance to see the other photographs on display at the exhibition.
“[I am] definitely nervous, I know there’s going to be a lot of photos that would have a story to tell.
“Excited would be the word to sum it up the most.”
The top 12 photographs will be on display at Grazeland in Spotswood, with the exhibition running across three weekends from May 12 to 14, May 19 to 21 and May 26 to 28 during opening hours.
