A move to name a reserve in Sunbury after a community identity is a step closer.
During last Monday’s Hume council meeting, the council approved a proposal to name a reserve in the Rosenthal Estate the Angela Potts Park, after Angela Millett (nee Potts).
The council will submit the name to the Geographic Names Victoria for consideration.
Born and raised in Sunbury, Ms Millett married local farmer Thomas Millett in 1964. Together they raised seven children in Rosenthal.
Ms Millett was an active volunteer, dedicating her time to schools, sports groups and other community events and initiatives in Sunbury.
She died on January 16, 1991, aged 53 after a long battle with cancer.
Ms Millett’s son Paul Millett said naming the park after his mum was a great way to honour her.
“She would be quietly chuffed,” he said.
The Rosenthal estate is being developed by the Millett family business TF & M Millett Pty Ltd.
In February, Hume council received a proposal from Urban Design and Management on behalf of Ms Millett’s family to name a reserve after her. Council asked for resident’s feedback on the proposal for 30 days. No objections were received.
