Kyneton real estate agents Tamara Mactier and Nathanial Briggs tell Elsie Lange about why they love where they live and work.
Where do you live?
NB: Woodend, I was born and raised in the town.
TM: I live just outside Kyneton towards Sidonia.
Tell us a bit about you and what you do?
NB: I am 26 years old, I have three other siblings, I am an owner and director of Ray White Real Estate in Kyneton. I volunteer with the Woodend CFA which I have been doing for just under 10 years and love the region. I have been doing Real Estate for just under seven years and prior to that was a massive foodie and spent time working in two of the local restaurants. I spend a lot of time eating out and enjoying all of the wonderful restaurants, cafes and wineries around the Macedon Rangers. I went to school within the area too.
TM: I joined the team at Ray White 18 months ago and am thrilled to become a part owner and director of the business. My family have always lived in the area so I have a strong connection with the region. I live on a farm with my partner, we run sheep, cattle and several hundred kangaroos at any given time. I have a couple of horses, two English Staffies and a Kelpie who is constantly rounding up the household.
What do you like about where you live?
NB: Woodend is a beautiful part of Victoria, we’ve have a such a great arts and food culture, amazing wineries and are in the heart of the stunning Macedon Ranges. It is so close to Melbourne and the airport for travel, and I certainly have yet to find anywhere else around the world that has a feel like this. No doubt there are many beautiful cities and places but nothing that offers such divers countryside and a feel of remoteness however being so well connected at the same time.
TM: It’s an absolute adventure playground and there is something for everyone. I love that I can been surrounded by beautiful countryside one moment and having a great meal in one of our many stellar restaurants the next.
What, if anything, would you change about where you live?
NB: I would change very little, maybe better phone service.
TM: That’s a hard one, probably phone reception. Although a digital detox is welcome at times.
Where is your favourite local place to spend time?
NB: I spend a lot of time down Piper Street, eating out looking at the shops, I love taking a walk up to Camels Hump on Mount Macedon and enjoying the views.
TM: It’s hard to select one as we are so spoilt for choice. Anywhere that serves some of our tremendous local wines or gins.. or both!
Tell us something people would be surprised to know about you
NB: I have an identical twin brother who owns his own building company in Woodend that many people mistake for me.
TM: I used to work backstage at the Day On The Green concerts and have literally been asked to separate certain colour M&Ms out by Mariah Carey’s manager. I think the most unrealistic part of the request was that she actually ate M&Ms.
