On the road… almost

Eager Macedon Ranges teenagers are a step closer to getting behind the wheel, but with thousands of cancelled tests, the road to obtaining a drivers licence is a long one.

Now that regional Victoria has progressed to the third step to a “covid normal“, learner permit and licence testing including drive tests can resume in the Macedon Ranges.

Ben Cameron from Kyneton South had a learner permit test booked for May 26, but he was forced to reschedule it to September 2 due to strict COVID-19 restrictions.

However, when the second lockdown began, VicRoads cancelled Ben’s test.

“I don’t know when I am going to do it next, or when they are going to reschedule it,“ Ben, 16, said.

“It’s a bit frustrating … but it is really exciting that I can go now. I really want to get my learner’s permit.“

Regional customers with a postponed appointment will be contacted by VicRoads to reschedule their test.

But with more than 5000 licensing appointments postponed across regional Victoria and a further 25,000 people unable to book a test since testing was suspended in March, VicRoads says it won’t be taking any new bookings until November.
