You might struggle to find someone more passionate about local history than Kyneton’s Ronda Walker.
A member of the Friends of Kyneton Museum, Ms Walker is dedicated to promoting the town’s history by helping to raise money and maintaining collections.
“[History] has a tremendous role in building a sense of community,” she said.
“I find it fascinating how many families have a connection to Kyneton because it was on the road to the Goldfields. It is amazing how many families come back to Kyneton to research that connection.”
Ms Walker’s dedication to promoting her local community – and her volunteer efforts over the years – have earned her an Order of Australia Medal in this year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours.
A Kyneton resident since the 1980s, Ms Walker is also a member of the Kyneton Fire Brigade, working as a radio operator since 1974.
She is also a member of the Zonta Club of Kyneton.
Two other Macedon Ranges residents – Janet Wood and David Mann – were also recognised in this year’s honours list.
