New Riddells Creek home for seniors

Riddells Creek Senior Citizens are thrilled with the renovated Riddells Creek Community Centre.

The group’s president Margaret Hutchinson said members are hoping even more of the community can enjoy the new surrounds – either by hiring out the centre or joining the seniors’ group.

“We would just love to see it used more by the community,” Ms Hutchinson said.

“The gardens and the whole centre has been upgraded.”

She invited anyone to pop in and see the new facilities.

Comprised of about 100 members from Sunbury and the Macedon Ranges, the seniors group meets at the centre twice a week. On Thursdays members catch up and play pool, carpet bowls, cards and chat after a three-course meal prepared by the in-house chef for $10.

The group conducts weekly raffles, celebrates special occasions and also runs a bus trip once a month.

Ms Hutchinson said anyone aged over 55 is welcome to join. The group members range in age – six members are over 90, and 102-year old Roly Oldershaw is a keen carpet bowler.
