New Gisborne Primary to get upgrade

Students at New Gisborne Primary School are a step closer to newer, better facilities with work now under way on a $772,000 redevelopment.

The construction will include a replacement of the school’s art room, which was destroyed by fire in 2011.

Macedon MP Mary-Anne Thomas said it was her goal to see the redevelopment come to fruition after it was passed over in the 2011 budget.

“Our kids can’t get a first-rate education in second-rate classrooms,” she said. “This new art room will ensure staff and students at New Gisborne Primary School have the facilities they deserve.”

“A high-quality education system must be matched by high-quality learning environments where students are engaged, stimulated and encouraged to be creative thinkers.

“I look forward to seeing this upgrade completed.”

There are now 42 new government schools and hundreds of school upgrades in the construction pipeline following the state government’s $1.8 billion investment in school infrastructure.

“This school building boom will create 4000 construction jobs and ensure all Victorian families have access to a great school no matter where they live,” Ms Thomas said.
