New chair for recital centre

Melbourne lawyer, businessman and philanthropist Peter McMullin AM has been appointed the new chair of the Melbourne Recital Centre, a renowned destination for dynamic live music experiences.

Creative Industries Minister Colin Brooks announced Mr McMullin’s appointment on Tuesday.

Mr McMullin is the current Chairman and Director of the McMullin Group, a private investment group, and has been President of the Confederation of Asia Pacific Chambers of Commerce and Industry since 2021.

A former mayor of Geelong and former deputy mayor of Melbourne, in 2019 Mr McMullin founded the Good Business Foundation which works to reduce inequality within, and between, countries across the globe.

Mr McMullin’s extensive philanthropy includes supporting the Science Gallery Melbourne and backing the establishment of the world’s first academic centre dedicated to the issue of statelessness at Melbourne University Law School, known as the Peter McMullin Centre on Statelessness.

A long supporter of the creative industries, Mr McMullin has also held board roles at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Geelong Performing Arts Centre Trust, Geelong Art Gallery, Museums Board of Victoria and Australian Chamber Orchestra.

“I am deeply honoured to be appointed Chair of the Melbourne Recital Centre – one of the world’s most impressive live music venues and a pivotal force shaping the future of live music experiences at the heart of our transforming arts precinct,” said Mr McMullin of his appointment.

Mr McMullin has served on the Melbourne Recital Centre board since 2021 and succeeds Emeritus Professor Andrea Hull AO, who has held the position for the past six years.
