A 58-centimetre robot that can walk, talk and even recognise your face, was the talk of Killara Primary School last week.
The robot, known as Nao, visited the school’s lunchtime code club last Tuesday to give students an idea of what they can do with technology.
The humanoid robot is owned by Hume Libraries, which hopes to use it to expand coding, robotic and literacy programs in schools and community groups across the municipality.
Killara Primary School teacher Robyn Smith said Nao was a fully programmable robot that is interactive.
“Nao is the world’s leading and most widely-used humanoid robot for education, healthcare and research,” she said.
“We were lucky enough to show [students] what it is capable of.”
The school’s code club has been running for three years, meeting two lunchtime’s a week. It comprises students from prep to year six.
Ms Smith said the club helps students to develop algorithmic thinking, while building their skills in coding.
