Mount Macedon CFA gets $1.6 million for renovations

Firefighters at Mount Macedon CFA are celebrating a $1.6 million win for the Mount Macedon community.

The Mount Macedon Road fire station is set to be renovated after $1.6 million in funding was allocated to the project in last week’s state budget.

Brigade captain Jim Darby said the brigade would be far better placed to serve the community with the renovations in place.

“The station upgrade will give us a much safer and more effective working environment,” Mr Darby said.

“This is the result of hard work by our volunteers, particularly Nicky Haslinghouse, Geoff Rigby, Adam Damen and Bryan Smith.

“It’s a major vote of confidence in our fire brigade and the work it does for its community throughout the year.”

Mr Darby said the new design would include meeting spaces that could potentially be accessed by the community, as well as a space where the volunteers can change into uniform, rather than dressing next to the trucks as they currently do.

The design for the renovation has come from a group of Melbourne University architecture students who have attempted to enhance the station’s operational capability.

The station has not been developed since before the Ash Wednesday fires.
