This year’s Mount Macedon Anzac Day dawn service has been cancelled due to COVID-19 physical distancing requirements for public events.

In a statement, the Mount Macedon Anzac Day Dawn Service committee said the narrow walkway viewing area at the Mount Macedon Memorial Cross did not allow people to physically distance and contact tracing data would be difficult to collect with various access points to the site.

“With the still unpredictable COVID situation in April, the health and safety of the public, especially our veterans, is the committee’s highest priority,” the statement read.

To honour the day, a dawn service video production will be available featuring traditional elements of the service.

The service was also cancelled last year due to the pandemic.

The organising committee expects the service will return in 2022.
