More grand final tickets for members

Footy fans will have a better chance of seeing their team play in a grand final after the AFL announced an extra 1000 tickets would be allocated to competing club members.

The increase will take the total ticket allocation for competing club members to 35,000 or 17,500 each.

The extra 1000 member tickets to be made available for this year’s grand final come from AFL corporate and premium hospitality allocations.

Collectively, members of competing clubs, along with AFL and Melbourne Cricket Club members will be allocated a total of almost 75,000 tickets for the grand final, accounting for roughly three-quarters of the MCG’s capacity.

Speaking at the quarterly AFL chief executives conference in Perth, Dillon said the increase was about ensuring as many members of competing clubs could attend the grand final as possible.

“The big and passionate membership bases of our clubs are the heartbeat of a match day and the commitment of the AFL is to ensure we can get the two competing club members both for this year and beyond more tickets in order to reward those who are most dedicated to our game and our clubs,” he said.

“The Toyota AFL Grand Final is one of the biggest and best sporting events in the world and the fortunate reality is we could sell out the 100,000 seat MCG four times over, so we need to continue to find the balance.

“For the ticketing release in September we will always prioritise our competing club members, with the biggest share of tickets available to those two competing clubs, and this year more available to those members.”

Information on ticketing, pricing and sale dates for the 2024 AFL finals is expected to be released soon.
