Memorial Cross to temporarily close

Mount Macedon Memorial Cross Reserve will be temporarily closed.

The site will be closed while it enters the early stages of a broader redevelopment project by Smart Civil.

The closure includes all walking access points that enter the Cross Reserve from the surrounding Macedon Regional Park, with the works necessary to allow for safety assessments and initial planning works to be conducted without interruption.

The Mount Macedon Memorial Cross Reserve Committee of Management confirmed the rest of the Macedon Regional Park will remain open.

“This is the first step in a longer-term vision to improve and revitalise the reserve,” a committee spokesperson said.

“To get this right, we need to make sure the area works are carried out in a safe and coordinated way.”

While the Cross Reserve is closed, signs will divert visitors to other nearby tracks for park users to then rejoin the Macedon Walking Trail.

While there isn’t a confirmed date for the reopening, the committee will continue to keep the community informed, with updates posted on the Parks Victoria website.

According to the committee, the redevelopment will enhance the area’s natural appeal while making it more accessible and enjoyable for the community into the future.

“We appreciate the public’s patience and support while we undertake this important work,” the spokesperson said.
