Melbourne to host environment conference

Melbourne has been selected to host the World Sustainable Built Environment Conference (WSBE) in 2026.

The conference series is renowned for addressing key issues in sustainable development within the built environment and has been a significant platform for scientific and technical advancements in this field.

The conference will be held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC).

The successful bid was led by the Melbourne Convention Bureau (MCB) in collaboration with RMIT University and with additional support from the Victorian Government and Tourism Australia’s Business Events Bid Fund Program.

The event is expected to attract over 1,000 delegates, including leading academic scientists, researchers, practitioners, and educators from around the globe.

MCEC, the venue for the conference, is a pioneering example of sustainable design. It was the first convention centre in the world to achieve a 6-star Green Star environmental rating and is one of only six convention centres globally to hold platinum certification.

Chief Executive of the Melbourne Convention Bureau Julia Swanson said that she is excited about Melbourne hosting the conference.

“We are thrilled to bring the World Sustainable Built Environment Conference back to Melbourne. Our city has a long-standing tradition of hosting successful, sustainability-focused events that leave a lasting impact

“Well-designed and resource-efficient infrastructure, such as our world-first 6-star Green Star-rated venue, the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, is crucial for building more sustainable cities and hosting impactful business events,” she said.
