Grade 6 pupil Thomas was among the many who recently got into the shave of things.
The Woodend Primary School pupil shaved off his long locks earlier this month as part of the World’s Greatest Shave to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation.
Thomas, 11, grew his hair for 18 months prior to the shave.
“I started growing my hair because I didn’t want to go to the hairdressers,“ he said.
“It grew long and eventually I thought that I could do the World’s Greatest Shave.
“It [my hair] was a little more than 32 centimetres.“
Thomas raised $3450 for the Leukaemia Foundation and decided to donate his hair to Sustainable Salons to turn into a wig.
“I am happy that I went along with the decision,“ Thomas said.
“It’s an amazing cause and I am proud.“
Macedon Ranges Health chief executive Sandra Hills last month also provided haircuts to five local participants.
She said it was an honour to take part in the international event for the fourth year.
“I might not be the best hairdresser around, but it’s wonderful to be part of a local event like this that brings so many people in the community together to raise charitable funds and give back to important health causes,” she said.
“Ken Reither from the Gisborne Men’s Shed, has done a great job yet again in spreading the word and helping to showcase Gisborne’s vibrant community spirit.“
Men’s shed members organised a barbecue and raffle on the day, raising more than $7000.
