People wanting to manage garden pests without resorting to chemicals are being encouraged to take part in a free workshop at Woodend Neighbourhood House this Saturday.
Local permaculture expert Mariette Tuohey (pictured) will share sustainable and non-toxic gardening methods from 10am until noon.
She says the hands-on class will show people how to achieve a balanced ecosystem in their backyards.
The workshop will cover topics including garden and soil ecology, pest identification and design principles.
‘‘The end result … is a garden that is biodiverse, eliminating the chance of a big outbreak of pests,’’ Ms Tuohey says.
