Man rescued from rollover in Bulla

A red P-plater was rescued from a rollover in Bulla last night.

Rescue crews were deployed less than two minutes after a call was made at 9.20pm about a possible person trapped in a car

SES Sunbury spokesperson Jarrod Bell said the rescue crews found the car approximately 50 metres after the Bulla Diggers-Rest Road roundabout, near the intersection of Loemans and Bulla-Diggers Rest roads.

“Conveniently for us, Wednesday evening is our training night, so we already had a good number of our members at the headquarters in uniform, ready to roll,” Mr Bell said.

“We had both our rescue trucks on route within seconds, arriving on scene shortly after the page.”

Mr Bell said when the crews arrived they found a silver commodore had gone to the left of the road, over a ditch before rolling onto its roof, with damage to the side of the car possibly from a tree.

Working with paramedics, SES removed the front, rear and B-pillar of the car to create enough space to load the young man onto a spine board and remove him from the vehicle, Mr Bell said.

He said there were a number of emergency services on the scene, including Fire Rescue Victoria, Diggers Rest Fire Brigade, Bulla CFA, Ambulance Victoria, Victoria Police and Australian Federal Police.

“It was a great job from all involved, all services worked really well together,” Mr Bell said.

“As the primary rescue provider in the area, we felt really supported by our paramedic and fire colleagues.

“Everything worked really smoothly and we got the job done really quickly,” he said.

Mr Bell said SES Sunbury’s road safety messages are always relevant after these incidents.

“We do ask our drivers to slow down and drive to the conditions they’re facing,” Mr Bell said.

“Making sure that people are driving roadworthy cars and especially when you’re going through tight corners, going the speed limit is a smart move.”
