Police have charged a man after “an unusual increase” of home break-ins in Sunbury.
Senior Constable Garry Holland from Hume Crime Investigation Unit said the number of robberies at residential properties in Sunbury during June and July was well above average.
“It’s been an unusual increase,” Senior Constable Holland said.
“Certainly above what I’ve seen.”
Last Wednesday, properties in Ligar Street, Daly Close and Oxley Street were targeted.
On July 1 and 2, five robberies occurred at properties on Batman Avenue, Mitchells Lane and Lawson Street.
Senior Constable Holland said a search of a property last week recovered jewellery, foreign currency, collector coins, electrical items, drugs and cash, which police have identified as stolen property.
A 30-year-old man has been charged with 23 offences.
He appeared before the Broadmeadows Magistrate Court last Thursday and was remanded to appear in court again on July 18.
Police are trying to return the stolen belongings to their rightful owners.
