Hume council’s deputy mayor wants urgent maintenance work to begin on Sunbury’s Macedon Street.

The council will write to the Roads Minister Ben Carroll, the Department of Transport and VicRoads to “demand” maintenance works be gazetted urgently to upgrade the “deplorable” condition of Macedon Street.

Deputy mayor Jack Medcraft said the street was covered in potholes.

“If you go down Macedon Street, it’s like a moonscape,” he said.

‘I saw a letter come from the Department [of Transport] saying the road at the present time doesn’t warrant urgent repairs and the holes aren’t big enough.

“I’d certainly look at putting in the strongest wording we can to one of these bureaucrats, saying I suggest you listen and come out to Sunbury and have a look at the road yourself … because you have no idea what we are talking about.

“I am sick and tired of these letters that we get sent back that are stereotyped bureaucratic bungle.

“This needs to be addressed.”

Cr Trevor Dance said the condition of Macedon Street was not getting any better.

“I see it nearly every day … and it doesn’t seem to improve, it just gets worse,” he said.

“Anything we can do to push these bureaucrats to give us a decent answer, I am all for.”
