Macedon Ranges’ waste collector has suspended its service without notice.
The council said it was informed by contractor Wheelie Waste this morning that it had suspended its collection of waste, recycling and green waste in the shire.
Residents are being advised to continue to use and put out their bins while the council works with the contractor and the government to work out future arrangements.
The council said it was working to resume services as soon as possible.
The suspension comes after the state government last month announced a $13 million support package to assist councils faced with increasing costs for recycling services until June 30.
In January, China introduced new standards to dispose of recyclables, forcing recycling giant Visy to pass on increased costs to its clients.
Macedon Ranges council is one of several Victorian councils hit by the increases.
