Macedon Ranges council has finalised an internal restructure.

The changes, which will come into effect from July 1, reduce the number of director positions from four to three and realign departments and senior manager roles.

The three new directorates are planning and environment, corporate and community and assets and operations.

The functions of what was the community and wellbeing directorate have been redistributed to the three new directorates.

The council’s chief executive Margot Stork said the new structure was not focused on finding redundancies within the council.

“Ten positions under the old structure have been made redundant, however it is important to note these have been replaced by 10 new roles, so there has been no net loss of jobs,” she said.

“The council has many commitments to deliver and we want to serve our community as efficiently and effectively as possible.

“I am confident that this new structure will assist us in achieving this.

“The council has a skilled and committed team working to deliver the best outcomes for the community and the new organisational changes would assist them in this work.”

Proposed organisational and staff changes were announced by the council in March and a series of face-to-face and online discussions were held.

More than 100 submissions were received from staff wanting to have an input into the process.

Staff whose roles are not in the new structure are able to apply for new roles through an expression of interest process which is currently underway.

Macedon Ranges mayor Janet Pearce said the new structure reflected the council’s focus on becoming a more efficient and responsive organisation.

She said Ms Stork had kept councillors “well briefed” during the organisational review and transition period.
