A 50-year-old man from Sunbury was intercepted by police after allegedly travelling almost 90km/h over the speed limit on the Calder Freeway on Friday, March 11.
At about 10.20pm, Macedon Highway Patrol allegedly detected a Holden sedan that was travelling at 189km/h in the 100km/h zone, and attempted to get the driver to pull over.
The man eventually stopped in Wilsons Lane, Sunbury, but refused to undergo a preliminary oral fluid test and drove off.
In a statement, police said they expected to charge the man with driving at dangerous speed, failing to stop on police direction and refusing a preliminary oral fluid test.
The interception forms part of Operation Arid, a state-wide road policing operation aimed at keeping the community safe on Victorian roads over the Labour Day long weekend.
