Macedon MP urges local clubs to apply for grants

Local sports clubs in the Macedon Ranges have been urged to apply for cash to improve their skills, administration expertise and gear.

Macedon MP Mary-Anne Thomas announced on Friday that applications had opened for the latest round of the government’s Sporting Club Grants Program.

“The Sporting Club Grants Program is giving local sports clubs in Macedon the support they need to come back better than ever from the recent restrictions, grow their ranks and help more people than ever play the sports they love,” Ms Thomas said.

“I encourage all our local clubs in Macedon to grasp this opportunity and apply.”

Clubs can apply for up to $1000 for new uniforms and equipment, including defibrillators, up to $5000 for training coaches, officials and volunteers, and up to $5000 to improve club operational effectiveness.

A statement from Ms Thomas encouraged grassroots clubs from the region to apply as soon as possible.

“The Sporting Club Grants Program is part of the Andrews Labor Government’s commitment to make community sport accessible and inclusive, stimulate local economies, build sustainable sport and recreation and volunteer opportunities, and increase local participation,” the statement said.

“The program has provided more than 9100 grants totalling more than $13.8 million to clubs across the state since 2015.”
