Macedon charity Living Legends is in with a chance to win $50,000, with this year’s Melbourne Cup tour national sweep locked in.
The official barrier draw for the race that stops the nation was decided on Saturday night, with 24 rural and regional Melbourne Cup tour destinations allocated a starting gate.
The town that draws the barrier of the eventual winning horse will be presented with a cash prize of $50,000 to put towards a registered charity for a local community initiative.
Macedon drew barrier 16, which belongs to a seven year old Irish horse Without A Fight, trained by father and son duo Anthony and Sam Freedman.
Victoria Racing Club (VRC) chairman Neil Wilson said the club was looking forward to welcoming the 24 national sweep representatives.
“This is the fifth year of the national sweep, and we are delighted to see the $50,000 prize go to meaningful programs,” Mr Wilson said.
“In the past four years [this includes] the Royal Flying Doctors in Kangaroo Island, Sunshine in Bendigo and various local initiatives in Bunyip and Gold Coast.
“We can’t wait to congratulate the winning town and see which charity this year’s donation goes towards.”
Melbourne Cup day is on Tuesday, November 7, and will be followed by Kennedy Oaks day on Thursday, November 9 and Champions Stakes day on Saturday, November 11.
The 2023 Melbourne cup can be seen live and free on 10 and 10 Play.
