More than 90 offences were recorded on Hume and Macedon Ranges roads across Victoria’s Operation Compass
The operation which ran over two weekends, the Melbourne Cup long weekend and last weekend, coincided with travel restrictions being lifted between metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria.
In the Macedon Ranges, 71 offences were recorded throughout the operation.
Among the offences were 49 for speeding, 10 for unregistered vehicles, three for drink driving and two for unlicensed driving.
In Hume, nine instances of speeding were recorded, as well as four unregistered vehicles and three mobile phone offences.
A total of 3884 speeding offences were recorded across Victoria.
Road Policing assistant commissioner Glenn Weir said it was important that drivers remembered proper road safety as they got back behind the wheel after months of lockdown.
“We have caught far too many people undertaking high-risk driving behaviour during this period – the number of people detected speeding at mid-range to high levels is alarming,” assistant commissioner Weir said.
“Speed remains the number one contributing factor to fatalities and serious injury collisions on our roads. Lives can be saved if people make better choices behind the wheel.”
