Sunbury’s Zach Albrecht is known for his red curly head, so when he doesn’t have it he’s unrecognisable.
The teenager previously shaved his head and raised money in support of a friend who had cancer, and earlier this year instead of cutting his hair, he again decided to raise money for World’s Greatest Shave.
“I thought growing my hair again would be a fun thing to do and help out other people,” he said.
“A lot of people told me not to shave it off as they like my hair. Not many people forget a person with a ranga mop.
“Getting sponsored to shave your hair is an extraordinary way to help people with leukemia, lymphoma and melanoma.
“It’ll feel different for a while, but it will come back.”
Last weekend, Albrecht had his head shaved during the Sunbury Jets’ men’s division 1 game at Boardman Stadium, which is named after his great grandfather Eric Boardman.
Albrecht is part of the Jets basketball program and the association was a big supporter of the fundraiser.
Jets’ coaching director Kennedy Kereama did the honours of shaving his head, while donations were collected on the night.
Albrecht is hoping his hair can be used to make a wig for someone who needs it.
