Locals run the rock

An off-road adventure at Hanging Rock awaits those with the stamina for some cross-country running when the weather cools off.

Run the Rock is on April 1 at Woodend, with participants competing in either a 20-kilometre, 12-kilometre or five-kilometre run or walk. There’s also a two-kilometre run for kids.

Event spokeswoman Alison Wood said Run the Rock encourages people to “get outside more”, and is put on by Sole Motive, the same organisers who stage Run Melbourne and other charity run events.

“Hanging Rock provides the perfect picturesque location for runners to try something different, trading the usual road running event for a challenging trail course made up of gravel and trail roads, grass and sealed country roads,” Ms Wood said.

“Run the Rock is the perfect opportunity to inspire runners to get involved in the great outdoors.”

Ms Wood said many participants will be using the event as an opportunity to give back to their communities by raising funds for causes they support.
