Amanda Millar will be the Liberal candidate competing against Macedon MP Mary-Anne Thomas in next year’s state election.
Mrs Millar, a Mount Macedon resident of more than 20 years, has been officially endorsed by the Liberal Party’s Victorian Division as its Macedon candidate after being preselected by local and state liberal party members in Lancefield last month.
Mrs Millar said it was an honour to be selected to run for election.
“As a passionate long-term local of the Macedon Ranges, it was a huge privilege to be preselected to be the Liberal candidate to contest the 2018 state election,” she said.
“I’m really excited about working with and for locals and our respected volunteers who are the lifeblood of our communities. My focus will be on raising the unheard voices here in Macedon.”
Mrs Millar held the position of a Northern Victoria MP from August 2013 to November 2014. The mother-of-two holds arts, commerce and industrial relations degrees from the University of Melbourne and has worked professionally in human resources and workplace relations for more than 20 years.
Mrs Millar said her priorities included reducing cost of living increases, supporting volunteer-work, tackling crime rates, enhancing liveability and protecting the area’s heritage. She said she would be conducting forums and listening posts across the electorate.
Mrs Millar will require a seven per cent swing to take the seat from Ms Thomas.
The state election is scheduled for November 24, 2018.
