Sunbury and the Macedon Ranges primary school pupils have gained team-building and problem-solving skills – thanks to Lego.
My Robot Academy in Sunbury formed a team of Lego enthusiasts aged between six and nine to set up a moon base using Lego at the First Lego League earlier this month.
The league engages kids and introduces them to STEM concepts using Lego.
Academy founder and instructor Mimas Keubekian said the event taught the children the benefits of teamwork.
“The challenge has been a great learning opportunity for the boys to work as a team to build a lunar moon base, and best of all they really enjoyed it,” Mr Keubekian said.
The Sunbury team, Space Kids, successfully completed the challenge that involved 12 schools.
Amanda Woods, whose son James was part of the team, said the league was a great learning curve for him.
“I think every child loves playing with Lego,” she said.
“After participating in the First Lego League expo, I believe this program has given my son James insight into new emerging technologies that he would not otherwise have the opportunity to learn about.
“Ultimately, I want him to see that once you become skilled at solving problems you can do some amazing things.”
