St Mary’s Primary School pupils are walking to their classrooms safely and in style, with a new school crossing completed in time for term one.

The project included a new crossing, kerb channelling, drainage, safety signage and fresh line markings near the intersection of Raglan Street in Lancefield.

Macedon MP Mary-Anne Thomas visited the school last month to celebrate the completion of the Chauncey Street crossing.

“Parents, students and teachers will all be delighted that their new school crossing has been completed in time for term one,” she said.

“We heard what Lancefield families had to say, which is why we’ve made the walk to school safer and easier for our littlest residents and their families.”

The $70,000 school crossing was part of the state government’s $5 million school road safety package delivered by Regional Roads Victoria.

The state government worked with the school, Macedon Ranges council and Regional Roads Victoria to ensure the school crossing was in the best location.

Ms Thomas reminded motorists to stick to the required speed limits around schools.

“We’ve all got to do our bit to keep our kids safe, so slow down, pay attention and take extra care during drop-off and pick-up times,” she said.
