After being named best small producer, as well as taking home the award for best Riesling, Lancefield’s Lyons Will Estate has a lot to cheers to after the Victorian Wine Show.
Proprietors and winemakers Ollie Rapson and Renata Morello said they were delighted to have scored the gongs, thrilled to be recognised for their hard work just a decade after establishing the winery.
“We are super proud and excited to have been this year’s winners for not just one but two excellent trophies,” Ms Morello said.
“The Riesling block is a labour of love that we planted nine years ago and we just love it.
“It produces fantastic wine and it feels really at home here in the Macedon Ranges.”
She said she believed Riesling had a “huge future” in the region.
“I feel especially proud winning this award as it’s a variety I feel really passionate about,” she said.
Mr Rapson said the winery worked extremely hard to produce the best quality across all their wines, and to be crowned Victoria’s best small producer was “just superb”.
“We feel really privileged to be able to not only grow our own fruit here in the Macedon but make it all onsite, its something we feel strongly about as its a true reflection of our home, the wines have their own identity that’s for sure,” he said.
Lyons Will is one of the more than 25 wineries across the region who will showcase their much-loved vinos at the annual Budburst Wine Festival over this weekend.
On December 4 the estate will hold their inaugural Fete de la Fleur event to celebrate the flowering vineyards.
