Lions Park Reserve in Romsey has been promised $550,000 should the Labor party be re-elected in November.
Macedon MP Mary-Anne Thomas made the pledge in late October, with the redevelopment of the reserve to include an upgraded skatepark for the whole community.
Lancefield Romsey Lions Club president Werner Ladzik said the organisation had been pushing hard for the funding, and were “exceptionally happy” with the news.
“We’re looking for $800,000 so it’s well on the way to that figure, for building a new skatepark,” he said.
“There is nothing else for teenagers, we don’t have a high school, so the kids will come home from school from out of town, so it would mean a better place to socialise.”
Ms Thomas said the $550,000 promise was part of the party’s commitment to backing local parks.
“Lions Park Reserve is a great community asset, and this funding will help revitalise and improve it for everyone,” a Labor statement said.
On social media, Ms Thomas described the funding pledge as “a dream driven by so many in the community”, especially the Lions Club.
Community Bank Bendigo Romsey also shared the news on Facebook, highlighting the $32,000 in funding it had provided to the club to have designs drawn up for the skate park.
“This planning has allowed them to seek further funding to bring it all to life,” the bank said.
“An important project for our local community, we’re delighted to have been involved in making this project happen.”
