Kyneton Museum will be closed from December 12 for restoration works to get underway in January next year.
The museum is housed inside the 166 year old former Bank of New South Wales building on Piper Street in Kyneton.
Macedon Ranges mayor Jennifer Anderson said it was great to see the museum getting the attention it needs.
“The museum provides such an interesting experience to all,” Cr Anderson said.
“Visitors to the museum can spend time browsing the collections on display, walking through the preserved upstairs rooms to see what it would have been like to live in those times, strolling through the beautiful gardens, and viewing the large collection of historical agricultural equipment which provides an amazing learning experience.
“It is such a valuable asset that highlights and celebrates certain aspects of the region’s history, so we’re working to ensure that it continues to play a significant role in our future as well.”
Council said the restoration works will be completed on the roof of the building in line with heritage requirements, and on internal floor maintenance.
Museum staff will review and care for items in various collections held by council, including the heritage, art and public art collections during the closure.
When the works are completed the museum will open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, with a new exhibition called ‘Stitch in Time’, uncovering the innovations of local craft hobbies throughout the years. It even includes items from council’s in-house collection and the Kyneton Historical Society.
Events and exhibitions for 2023 will be released by council on December 15.
