Kyneton CFA calls for more volunteers

Kyneton CFA brigade members are calling for more people to join them helping to keep the community safe.

The brigade is looking for men and women aged above 16 years to train as volunteer firefighters.

Lieutenant Gareth McIntyre was enthusiastic about the benefits of volunteering with the CFA.

“Volunteer membership offers new members fresh challenges as well as a chance to meet new people and give something back to their local community,” he said.

“We’ve got basic firefighting training scheduled to start in September, so now is the time to get in contact to be operational before next summer.”

He said the average firefighter committed two hours a week for training and another two for operational responses, but the times varied depending on the season.

Volunteering opportunities are also available for those interested in assisting with community education programs, promotions, fundraising and administration.

The brigade will host recruitment information sessions at Kyneton Fire Station, Ebden Street, on Friday, May 11, from 7pm, and on Saturday, May 12, from 2pm.
