With National Biodiversity Month around the corner, Junior Landcare has announced a new Find-a-Word activity sheet has been added to its online learning centre for some school holiday fun.
The latest activity will focus on themes that express the importance of looking after the natural ecosystem so children can understand the importance of caring for the environment, including in Sunbury and the Macedon Ranges.
The learning centre includes a plethora of other educational activities to teach children about the environment and what they can do to protect it.
“For children to want to protect the environment, they must first be able to appreciate and understand it,” said Landcare Australia chief executive Shane Norrish.
“The Junior Landcare Learning Centre has been designed to do just that, with this latest activity sheet building on the many existing activities to help children build knowledge and connections to their local environment.”
Other activities in the learning centre focus on themes such as food production, biodiversity, waste management and First Nations perspectives and can be used at home and in the classroom.
In addition, earlier this year the learning centre added ten First Nations focused activities developed in collaboration with First Nations educator, Wiradjuri man Adam Shipp. The activities include discovering First Nations weather, creating an Indigenous plant use garden, and exploring First Nations people’s languages map.
