The state government will help Macedon Ranges council introduce new separated glass and organic waste drop-off points.
The council is one of 11 to benefit from the $3 million investment, allowing more glass to be recycled into bottles and jars and organic resources recycled into compost.
Environment and Climate Action Minister Lily D’Ambrosio said the government was supporting regional communities to build thriving recycling networks and circular economies, creating jobs and reducing waste.
“We’re transforming the way we think about waste – boosting jobs in regional Victoria as we target diverting 80 per cent of landfill by 2030,” she said.
The government said the funding is part of the $129 million investment to roll-out the new four stream waste and recycling service to the regions, through the Transfer Station Upgrade Fund.
Round two of the Regional Recycling Fund is also now open, until October 27, helping the regions create local circular economies through material recovery and sorting facilities in regional Victoria. Grants are available for regional sorting facilities.
