Immunisation sessions extended

Council-run immunisations sessions in the Macedon Ranges have been extended, to make it easier for parents to ensure their children’s vaccinations are up-to-date.

Macedon Ranges council has extended the session hours as a response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Assets and operations director Shane Walden said keeping up with immunisations was always important, but was now vital due to COVID-19.

“We understand that some people may not want to take their children to a clinic at this time, but following through with timely childhood immunisation is important. As a result, our immunisations service is adapting to ensure this can still happen,” he said.

The council has put measures in place to ensure the safety of residents, immunisation nurses and staff, with the sessions set up to ensure appropriate social distancing.

Participants will be required to undertake a brief screening questionnaire and temperature check to ensure they do not present a risk to others. Anyone who is feeling unwell is asked not to attend immunisation sessions.

Only one parent or caregiver should attend a session with any child requiring immunisation.
