Iconic actor to host screening

Veteran actor Ian Rooney is set to make an appearance at a Kyneton event.

Rooney has donated his time to host an ‘Afternoon of Film’ to celebrate elders for World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, Sunday June 15.

He will also present his own show about life on stage and in front of the camera.

Recognised as Cec Drury in the Dr Blake Mysteries, he’s also made appearances in Neighbours, Blue Heelers and Underbelly. A talented and amusing man, he is highly sought after for training in all areas.

Rooney will be at the Kyneton Mechanics Institute from 12pm and said he is hoping to meet as many young people as possible who are interested in the performing arts industry to answer questions and assist them with the way forward.

He will present the feature matinee showing of Thelma at 2pm, a film that puts a comedic spin on the growing problem of older people being scammed.

Rooney will chat with local finance expert Bob Nixon for advice on how we can safeguard against this abuse.

The free event will be held at the Kyneton Mechanics Institute on Sunday, June 15. For more information, visit mrsc.vic.gov.au/weaad
