The Macedon Ranges are not immune to the effects of substance addition, the area’s top cop has warned ahead of a forum which will guide the development of a local strategy to combat crystal methamphetamine.
While an ongoing regional operation has resulted in large numbers of arrests and drug seizures in Sunbury and Romsey, Inspector Ryan Irwin said the scourge of ice was not something that could be addressed by enforcement alone.
“It’s a community issue and it needs a whole of community approach to mitigate the impact,” he said.
The September 11 forum, at Woodend’s Norma Richardson Hall from 9am-1.30pm, is the latest in a series organised by the Macedon Ranges Local Safety Committee.
While previous events have focused on raising awareness with clubs, community groups and health professionals, the next symposium will lay the foundations for a plan to tackle ice use. Bookings: 5428 2640
A separate information session organised by the Lancefield and Romsey community banks will be held at Romsey Park from 7pm on Tuesday, September 15.
