Health boost for Kyneton

Patients now have access to a Hepatitis C outreach clinic at Kyneton District Health.

The clinic opened its doors in July, in partnership with Austin Health and Cobaw Community Health.

Located within the Kyneton hospital, the clinic has a gastroenterologist, clinical nurse consultant and clinical pharmacist. It also offers access to FibroScan – a device which provides an update on liver scarring.

Kyneton District Health chief executive Maree Cuddihy said the clinic would boost community outreach services already available through the hospital.

“It’s fantastic for our local community,” she said.

“This new clinic allows patients to see their specialists locally, increasing access to treatment for those who need it.”

Austin Health nurse consultant Susan Campfield said the clinic was a great service for Kyneton and surrounding towns.

“We’ve already established clinics in West Heidelberg and Wallan and this new clinic in Kyneton will help us further enable community-based treatment,” she said.

“Together with existing services available at Austin Hospital, we are working towards the World Health Organisation target to eliminate Hepatitis C by 2030.”
