Have a picnic at Hanging Rock

The annual Hanging Rock reserve screening of Peter Weir’s film Picnic at Hanging Rock is back on this weekend.

The film screening was scheduled to take place on February 14, but had to be postponed due to the five-day COVID-19 circuit-breaker lockdown.

The council’s planning and environment director, Angela Hughes, said the film screening will be held in the Hanging Rock East Paddock, offering a different view of the rock as the sun sets.

“Guests are encouraged to embrace the theme by packing a picnic and dressing up as their favourite Picnic at Hanging Rock character,” she said.

Picnic-goers will be able to watch the film from their car, if the weather is not ideal.

Local winery Parkside Winery Estate will also offer tasting and sales prior to the movie screening.

The film, which is an adaption of the 1967 novel by the same name by Joan Lindsay, revolves around the disappearance of several schoolgirls and their teacher during a picnic to Hanging Rock on Valentine’s Day in 1900.

Patrons are advised to bring a jacket, blankets and chairs to sit on.

The film night is on Saturday, March 27 from 7pm at 139 South Rock Road, Woodend.

Tickets cost $25 for adults, $10 for children and $60 for a family. Tickets must be purchased by 2pm on Friday, March 26.
