Thousands of workers could be left without jobs after strict Stage 4 restrictions came into effect this week.

On Sunday, Premier Daniel Andrews declared a ‘State of Disaster’ for Victoria and announced a raft of new restrictions, including an 8pm curfew and a five kilometre radius for exercising and shopping.

Intimate partners will still be able to visit each other.

Takeaway and food delivery options will also continue.

“The only reason to be out of your home between the hours of 8pm and 5am is to get care, to give care, or to go to and from work or be at work,” Mr Andrews said.

“We can no longer have people visiting others. We can no longer have people simply out and about for no good reason whatsoever.

“Anybody breaking that curfew, you run the risk of being caught and run the risk of being fined,” he said.

Those who are caught flouting the rules face a $1652.

A host of further restrictions impacting jobs and businesses were to be announced on Monday, after Star Weekly went to press.

It comes as Hume’s virus count continues to mount.

As of Sunday night there were 497 active cases across the municpality.

The Macedon Ranges had recorded 30 cases of the virus and there were 19 active as of Sunday night.

To date, 123 people have died from coronavirus in Victoria.
