Major funding has been unveiled to help protect Hanging Rock.
The state government has committed to spend $3 million in the next three years to implement the Hanging Rock Strategic Plan.
The money will be used to purchase the East Paddock to allow management of the site as one precinct.
The funding is also expected to cover creating greater recognition of Hanging Rock’s indigenous cultural significance, developing environmental protections, maintaining infrastructure and enhancing recreation opportunities.
The East Paddock purchase is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
Macedon MP Mary-Anne Thomas welcomed the move.
“This funding will make sure this incredible place gets the care and attention it deserves so it continues to be enjoyed by local families and visitors as it has for generations,” she said.
“Hanging Rock is a well-loved feature of our community, and importantly, all improvement works will be undertaken in partnership with the Macedon Ranges council, traditional landowners and our local groups and organisations.”
Environment Minister Lily D’Ambrosio said she was delighted with the announcement.
“The Victoria government is committed to protecting Hanging Rock’s unique mix of environmental, cultural and social heritage values,” she said.
Ms Thomas, Ms D’Ambrosio and Planning Minister Richard Wynne endorsed the 50-year Hanging Rock Strategic Plan in August last year.
