Grants open for grassroots multicultural groups

The state government has opened applications for a new $5 million grant program aimed at supporting multicultural and multifaith groups across the state.

Known as the Multicultural Capacity Building Program, the initiative follows recommendations from a 2025 review into the sector led by George Lekakis.

The program provides three separate tiers of funding. Groups can apply for small grants of up to $10,000, mid-level grants of $100,000, or larger sums of $400,000. These funds are intended to help local organisations with internal costs such as staff training, business planning, and IT upgrades, as well as day-to-day operational expenses.

According to the state government, priority will be given to applications coming from regional areas and those representing new or emerging communities. This focus is part of a broader effort to make grassroots organisations more sustainable over the long term.

Minister for Multicultural Affairs Ingrid Stitt stated that the funding is designed to help community groups strengthen their foundations. She described these grassroots organisations as essential to the social fabric of the state.

Local organisations in the northern and western suburbs have until 19 February 2026 to submit their applications. Details regarding eligibility and information sessions are available on the official Victorian Government website.
