Primary producers affected by storms in June last year will be able to apply for grants to help cover the costs of their clean-up and recovery activities.
Under the joint commonwealth-state disaster recovery funding, primary producers can apply for grants of up to $25,000 (GST exclusive) if impacted by the storms from June 9-11 2021 with applications to close May 31, 2022.
To be eligible to apply, Macedon Ranges applicants must be a primary producer earning more than 50 per cent of their income from their farming business, have an Australian Business Number held at the time of the disaster, continued in their primary production when affected by the eligible disaster and intend to re-establish their production enterprise.
A council media release outlined some of the ways the grants can be used, including hiring of equipment for the cleanup, additional labour costs, debris and damaged goods removal, reparations of property infrastructure for resumption of business, restoring farmland, purchase of animal food and payment for advice.
“Compensation for lost income is not an eligible item for grant assistance. This grant is intended for restoration activities only,” the release said.
