Sunbury Medical Centre has been recognised for its part in a university student’s research project.
The centre was presented with an Excellent Contribution to Research by a General Practice award for its role in helping Melbourne University honour student Peter Nguyen.
The award was part of Melbourne University’s Department of General Practice Teaching and Research awards.
Medical centre practice manager Neville Moller said centre employees were delighted at their achievements.
“We’re obviously quite humbled because it’s a state award,” he said. “It just gives us recognition of the work we do in research and in supporting research in general practices.
“We’ve facilitated the research by providing the facilities and also supporting the student with the data that he needed to research the project.”
The eight-week study looked at identifying the best model of communication for the use of aspirin in the prevention of bowel cancer.
“What the study did was identifying patients at a certain age, and they were shown certain digital advertising in relation to the subject matter and were asked which had the best that they could identify with,” Mr Moller said.
“The idea was to formulate the best way to communicate with the community … the benefits of aspirin in the prevention of bowel cancer.”
